Chapter 19

Rico

“Stay still, will you?” Marla scolded, before readjusting my hand on the table for an x-ray.

“Well, I’m trying, Marla, but it hurts with my fingers spread out that way,” I complained.

“Poor big, bad mafia man can’t handle a little discomfort. Such a big man baby, all you men. Big fucking babies.” She chuckled after releasing my hand and going behind a partition to take an x-ray.

The machine beeped, and Marla came back out, adjusting my wrist into another position. I winced again, and she rolled her eyes.

“So tell me again why you assaulted a wall?” she asked, while walking back behind the partition.

Another beep sounded, and she emerged again, pushing a cart with a laptop on it towards me.

“It’s Miss West, isn’t it?” She smiled while she studied the screen, clicking the mouse.

“Yes, and the bastard that did that to her has my son…” I sighed, cracking my neck, trying to keep my rage contained so Marla wouldn’t see that side of me.

“Well, I have no doubt you’ll get him back soon. Especially since all you handsome mafia men are here together.” She chuckled, shaking her head. “No breaks. Just ice and take it easy on the punching.”

“Thanks, Marla… Is Cassandra doing alright?”

“No change, I’m afraid. I’m glad you let the girl stay with her. She’s been here talking to her and keeping her company for the past half hour or so.”

“I didn’t approve that, but as long as she’s not in the way or a bother…”

“You know I’ll call you directly if there’s a problem, or a change in Miss West’s condition. Now go. Eat. Sleep. Rest.” Marla tried shooing me out the door.

“Thank you, Marla. Really.”

“You can thank me by getting your son back, and maybe some margaritas after the dust settles.” She smiled warmly, shutting the laptop and pushing the cart behind the partition.

“You have yourself a deal.” I adjusted my suit jacket and headed back towards the conference room.

My phone vibrating in my chest pocket stopped me in my tracks, and I checked the notification.
